| In 1996 Alexander Zinenko, bass gutarist Vitaly Shevchuk, percussionist Alexander Kadnikov and flautist Vasily Kovalchuk created the group "He Knows". Before that the singer, the bass guitarist and the percussionist played in the group "Three Atop", but after the boys went to the army "The Three..." collapsed. After the boys came back from the army they decided to get on with their work again. But meanwhile a lot of changes occurred in their lives. The boys became Christians, in the proper sense of the word. Not in denomination sense, but according to the life-style. So they decided to create completely new group. The group's name "He Knows" literally implies that "God sees everything and knows what happens to everyone." |
The group first appeared in public at a
preliminary tour of the All-Ukrainian music festival "Chervona
Ruta'97." Given the fact that they had to practice in an apartment, without equipment, and the percussionist would tap with fingers against the stools, and it was the first time when they played in the normal way on the stage, so they considered their performance quite successful. Unfortunately there was no one to support the musicians in their endeavors and the group had to call it quits. The boys simply played the guitars and sang their songs in a narrow circle of friends and hoped for the best. And "the best" came soon. In the end of 1997 two brothers joint the boys: solo-guitarist Slavik Pidganyuk and guitarist Ruslan Pidganyuk. The group started operating and reheasring again. Soon after another musician joined them: keyboardist Yuri Mozyl. With this set-up in May of 1998 they started recording their audio album in one of Ternopil FM radio stations. Recording conditions were not ideal at all: 4 channel MD-portastudio made us do 3 or 4 digitalizations. The studio's size was 2x2 meters, the only available things were: reverberator, chorus and drive for the guitar. Yet nevertheless the musicians didn't give up and in fall of 1998 they released their audio album titled "My God". After this the boys were noticed. The group's songs were aired on local radio stations, and in the final contest of annual Ternopil hit parade in 1998 the musicians won three awards of the seven possible: "Song of The Year", "Find of The Year", "Spectators' Sympathy Prize".
In 1999 the group "He Knows" started making concert tours. First of all musicians made several concerts in schools of Ternopol region. Later they made concerts in Lvov and Ivano-Frankivsk, also in Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Kiev, Minsk, Moscow. There were some ironical cases. For instance in Moscow 2 hours before the concert Alexander Zinenko's voice had gone to the point of being unable to speak, he was just whispering. Thus back-vocalist and keyboardist Yuri Mozyl sang instead. The performance was sort of off-beat, yet the audience accepted them quite well. And the Ukrainian songs didn't create a barrier. Since then the boys have knocked about all over Ukraine with Christian concerts and also performed in the festivals in Poland and Humgary. They were planning a concert tour all over Germany, but due to certain reasons it was cancelled.
The group "He Knows" works in underdeveloped trend of contemporary Christian music, without propagandizing any religious doctrine, and encouraging the youth to live according to Christian principles. The long and the short of it is: the boys sing what they live.
Currently the musicians are recording their new audio album, make rehearsals and prepare for the next concerts. At present the group consists of 4 persons: vocalist Alexander Zinenko, solo-guitarist Slavik Pidganyuk, bass-guitarist Vitaliy Shevchuk, and keyboardist and rhythm-guitarist Yuri Mozil.
