Oleg Khomchenkov, participant of the group "AVVA" I want to witness what the Lord has done in my life. I tried drugs as a 14-years-old school boy. I liked it and I started smoking marijuana. I got friends whom I spent much time with, getting stoned and listening to hard music. Many people who later became drug addicts had started like this. After a while, we switched to stronger drugs. Our thinking, our principles, and our goals have changed... Before one can say 'Jack Robinson,' I became a goner. Like many of my "friends," I did not go to serve in the army because I wanted to live my way. Then I started having problems with my health and decided to leave drugs. It seemed like I got over it. I deliberately changed my environment, met a good girl, and married her, we got a baby. My wife insisted that I would enter the university; I got prepared, passed all tests, and entered the department of agriculture and ecology. At that time I did not know that without God all this seemingly prosperous life would collapse and I would find myself even in a deeper pit than I had been in before. And the devil laughed at me. I began meeting with my all friends and everything repeated. Everything started to fall apart - my studies, my work, my plans for the future. My family suffered and also started to collapse. I tried to do something, but this time my problems were much more serious. Trying to leave drugs, I started drinking and got problems with my stomach which had been ruined before. The devil mocked at my reason, he gave me terrible and bloody nightmares about my family. I could not sleep, as soon as I closed my eyes it would all repeat all over again. I went outside, smoke a lot, and almost howled at the moon. I was terrified and enslaved... My nerves couldn't endure it, I was tired to fight. Sometimes I thought about commiting suicide. One day I opened the New Testament. When I started reading it, I did not really understand what it was all about. Very soon I noticed that before I go to bed I would recall the events from this book - how Jesus walked by this earth, how he healed the sick, and how he cust demons out of the possessed. Something started to change in my life. The Scriptures started to open to me, I started praying that is talking to God. I honestly told him about all my problems, and he started solving him! Praise God! By that time, one of my old friends has already received Christ. He invited me to come to his church. I came there and I liked being there. There was good modern music and good people with shining faces. I started attending services, and soon repented in all of my sins. I started to live a new life! Everything changed. The Lord worked out all of my problems, one by one. I started sleeping well, my fears left me, and my family got restored. My wife and I started attending the church together, and soon she committed herself to the Lord. In a few months, we made covenant with the Lord. We were baptized on the 29th of May, 1993. We are happy. The Lord started realized even my wildest dreams - I got involved with music and started singing, for the Lord gave me such an opportunity and blessed me for this ministry. I am very happy to be able to glorify his holy name and witness to people that Jesus Christ is the answer to any need, no matter how hopeless it might seem. Jesus is the one who gives salvation and eternal life! May the Lord bless you!
