Cor.: Tell me please how did you turn to God. Answer: Once I had to go to Kurgan for young people. During the trip I met one guy, a recruit. He started asking me «whether there are charismats in Saint Petersburg», and frankly speaking I didn’t know who they are. I knew punks, rockers, metalists, rappers, aciders, but I didn’t know those “charismats”. I was ignorant about anything he told me about God, I only wanted to come back home, and work at my hobby. And then I came, brought all the guys to the commander and went home. I got good money and could afford to rent a big house. But when I was going home I saw that the windows were broken. At first I thought it was wind but then it turned out that thieves visited my house. They stole everything. They stole my electronics as well. I understood it was done on purpose. The thing is that I worked for the association of DJ-s. But I wanted to work separately, independently. Some clubs offered me to cooperate without interagents. I didn’t make any profit for the association. Moreover, before I left some big guys came to my house to warn me but I refused. However, to go to police and to prove it was impossible. When I came to my friends DJs to ask them to rent me some electronics, they refused to give (I think someone persuaded them no to do that). I lost everything. I have nowhere to go. When my girl-friend saw my state of affairs she left me. I was short of money and I had to leave that house (I was asked to do that). It happened in January 1998. I stayed in a desolate house. There were not windows in it. I had to take polyethylene off the greenhouse and to draw it on the windows’ openings. There were only two things in that house: a bed and a thermometer on the wall. I could see the temperature in my room and it was almost all the time below zero. My warm blanket saved me. Sometimes I was stealing the firewood and burned it in the stove, but it was enough only for a short period of time. Eventually I ran out of money. And then I started to steal. My victims were drunk people. There were a lot of them in that district. Once the recruit who asked me about “charismats” came to my house. His name was Roma, and he was still looking for them. He started to bring me food every night. Later I found out that he had brought me his own suppers. Besides he told me about God all the time, about His love, but I mentioned my condition and rejected God and everything that was connected with Him. I considered God to be guilty for everything happened to me. Once Roma came and he was in a very good mood, he gladly told me that he had found “charismats”. He persuaded me and I agreed to go to the meeting. He also brought one more soldier, he was a believer but a baptist. So I went to the meeting. There were only sisters there. They received me in a very good way. Irina was a leader of the group. She explained everything to me, she told me who I was and who I served. At the same time this group of girls took the responsibility to help me, despite the fact that they were not very rich. They gave me food all the time and preached to me. And once they decided to invite me to the big meeting. I agreed. And when I came there the first thing I saw was electronics, very cool electronics. Then I heard good rock, they called it “praise”. I like electronic music, but rock music was very good. Then the pastor came out. His name was Sergey Tymohin. Frankly speaking, when I saw him, I even didn’t think that he was a pastor. I don’t remember what was his preaching about, but eventually, as it usually happens, pastor called for repentance. I didn’t go. But he didn’t surrender. Then Roma took me and came with me for repentance. I repented. 15-20 people were standing around me. At that moment I felt that there is Someone Who actually loves me, not for money, not for my social status, but for nothing. At that moment pastor came o me and embraced me. I don’t know what happened but I started to cry. Then everything was finished, and we came home. Easter has come. I started visiting cell churches. Brothers and sisters always prayed for me, and God has answered their prayers. Cor: When and how did you decide to perform Christian music? Answer: In 1998 when I repented. I went home. I was a new-saved person, and the church in Baku was very young and, moreover, authorities forbade gathering. The church itself from Sweden - «The Word of Life», and it’s called «The temple of Praise». Frankly speaking, when I came, I rebelled, I told that nobody wants to save youth. Once I watched the videocassette of À. Ledyayev, and God told me through hem: «If you see the necessity, start doing that». I had nothing: neither electronics, nor ideas - absolute zero. But God has already started His work. During the next week I recorded my first song «Word». Then one girl from our church, her name is Ramida, desired to sing in a band, and she helped me very much. She is the author of the song «Jesus loves you». Our youth pastor didn’t approve my musical project first, but the second pastor said that I had to have the scriptural base from God for our project. And I got this base 1Cor. 9:20-23: 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. But we were forbidden to work anyway. Ramida left the band because she wanted to be obedient to pastor, generally it’s right. I was alone. Then I came to God and started to ask Him to show His will, and He gave me the Word John: 12:12-16: 12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. 14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. 16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. I didn’t understand how it was connected with my situation, but then the Holy Spirit showed me: that the donkey is the means of transportation. The donkey helped Jesus to get closer to people in Jerusalem. Music of today gets Jesus closer to the youth. So, it means that music is that donkey. And everything became very clear. It turned out that our pastors like His disciples didn’t understand that for the first time. So, I need to do everything so as Jesus name will be praised, so I finished this album with another vocalist. Her name is Nata, and for today she is the leader of praise in our church. I called this album «The Counterblow». Pastors got one copy of this album. The next day our youth pastor called me and said: «I give you complete freedom for work, you can use anyone and anything, just do that». So now I’m doing that. Cor.: How do you write your songs? Answer: Usually it happens in a spontaneous way. I plan seldom. I take directions and styles from the modern show-business, themes from different surroundings and from preaching. Cor.: Do you have your own band? Answer: My band is called “Creative”, and this name explains everything. Cor.: What does music mean for you? Answer: I think it means for me the same thing as it was for Bach: «Music is the means for praising God». Cor.: Who is your audience? Answer: Generally, my audience is progressive circles of youth. Cor.: Where do you perform? Answer: We perform only in Baku during youth meetings.
