Corr.: How and when did you make a decision to write and perform Christian music? V.Z.: When we realized who Jesus was and why he had come to earth, it was natural when we saw how Jesus changed our lives, we wanted to share his love with other people. Before that we played in various groups and we knew how important music is for the people, especially for the young. That is why we decided to create a group and carry to people the news of salvation by means of music. So our group "He Knows" gathered in fall of 1996. Corr.: Why is your group called "He Knows?" V.Z.: Our group was named after the words of one of our songs. It tells that God knows what you're worried about and he can always help you, "He Knows." It can also be said that our group received its name by chance. We took part in a concert and were about to appear on the stage, and our group had to be announced. We had never thought of a name for our group before, we just had been writing and performing songs. So we had a quick discussion and gave our group this name. By the way, it often happens to us: we write a song, play it, and then think of a title. Corr.: How do you write your songs? V.Z.: Our leader and singer Alexander Zinenko writes most of our songs. We are grateful to God for the inspiration and vocal talents that he has given to Alexander. His music is a real blessing for us and for those who listen to us. God also gives songs to Vitaly Shevchuk, who wrote one of our hits, "The Train," and to our solo guitar player Slavik Pidganyuk. Corr. What does music mean to you? V.Z.: We believe that music is a great power that God has given to people. We can see the music's influence on people. It can influence man's personal life and the decisions that he makes. We see that satan is successfully using music for his purposes, and many people (first of all, the young) have become trapped in his nets. But we never forget that music was created by God, and satan only distorted it. Everybody knows that the original is always better than a copy. That is why we believe that these days God will reveal His might through music, in Ukraine and all over the world. We are all witnesses of the fact that Christian music becomes increasingly popular all around the world, and its influence on people is growing. Corr.: What people do you write your songs for? V.Z.: We try to write songs that will be understood by people of all ranks, but first of all our songs are aimed at the youth. We try to sing about what young people are worried about. We show that Jesus is the answer. And, praise God, our ministry has already yielded its first fruit. Corr.: Where do you give your concerts? V.Z.: We work in conjunction with the "Rebirth" Christian church with the goal of spreading the gospel of Christ among the youth. We hold outreach concerts in the high schools, colleges and universities of Ternopil. We have already visited about a third of these educational institutions. We have seen that many young people don't see any meaning in life, and we just told them about Jesus. These concerts are a great and blessed ministry that God has given us. We also participate in other activities, we play at concerts, conferences, and festivals. Corr.: Could you tell us a little bit about yourselves? V.Z.: We are all young, almost the same age. We know what contemporary youth is interested in, what are their values and criteria. We also used to live by those principles. But when Jesus came into our lives he completely changed them. He showed us his way and we understood why man lives on earth. We are very happy that God found us and that we can serve Him. We are all good friends, and we believe that because of the ministry of our group "He Knows" many people will come to God and get to know the joy of life in Him.
