Cor.: How would you explain the name of your band?

Answer: We chose this name because it's the name of our village at Chukotka (far north-east), where missionaries Eugeny Kalashnikov and Natalia Slavskaya had the idea of creation a music band.

Cor.: How did you come to creating your own songs?

Natalia Slavskaya: It wasn't my decision to create songs I thought, only some special people, composers, could do that. I've got professional music education, but I never thought about writing songs, and when I wasn't a believer (till 1992), and when I believed in Jesus Christ. I started writing songs as soon as in 1998 we decided to start a band. It happened just like that, I know it was a gift from God.

Cor.: How do you write your songs?

N.S.: Silently, usually (it's a joke). I don't know how to answer this question. When I was a little girl, I wanted to write a song. I sat at the table, took a pencil, and for a long time thought, and nothing came to my mind... That's why I don't know. The only thing I can say is that I write the words and music at the same time. It comes without my will and desire, it's a gift from above.

Cor.: What made you start a band?

N.S.: We saw that people really enjoy going out to concerts, listen to the music, songs, and they don't have too many possibilities to do that. The Middle East is really underdeveloped musically: there are little music bands, and especially, Christian bands. So, we decided to start out a band. We came back to Vladivostok and started looking for people, eager to give themselves to music ministry and who would believe that God was able to help us to create the first Christian group in The Far East.

Cor.: Tell us about yourself

Kalashnikov Eugeny: In my family nobody knew a thing about God and faith in Christ. When I was 11, I was sent to a specialized school for "difficult" teen-agers, when I turned 15 - to prison, and then - to prison for young offenders, and then - to the prison for adults. I came through the prisons from Vladivostok to Omsk. When I spent my sentence in Blagoveschensk (Amur region), I got a New Testament. I read it for some time. In some six month I believed that Jesus died for my sins and that He was my salvation. When I was released, I went to evangelistic Baptist Church. One year later I went to Chukotka as a missioner (by that time I had married Natasha Slavskaya). In 1997 we came back to Vladivostok. Today, we are working on starting a new church, a new music band. Most of all I like to to tell people about God. I started to play the bass guitar only a year ago and I liked it! I think, my artistic career has just begun.

Natalia Slavskaya: I'm married to Eugeny Kalashnikov who is now a bass quitarist. We've got three wonderful children: Pasha (6 years old), Mark (5), and Yashka (3). My hobbies are music and barbeque. I also like to cook various tasty things, I like to travel and to swim (in summer in the sea and in the winter - in swimming pool). I've got many friends (I can't live without friends), we come over to visit them very often.

Spiridonova Olga: I met the future band-mates at the church in Vladivostok, where I started going when I moved to this city to study in the Pedagogic Professional School. With God's help "The Providence" found in my person the missing part of itself, and after many years in this band I can say I have found my ministry to God and to people.

Kuksin Max: I have many hobbies and they are quite various. In the band I met Olga Mirkina and I married her (we'll soon have a baby). My best friends are my wife, my guitar, my computer, my car, the band and everyone. My plans are to have a real studio (outside the flat).

Mirkina Olga: I've liked music and sports since I was a child. Since I became a believer, I really like to sing about God, to worship Christ. However, only after joining "Providence" I found something I had been dreaming for my whole life. I'm really thankful to Zhenya and Natasha Kalashnikov for being an example of a real Christian and not religious life. Besides, "Providence" is directly connected to another God's gift - in 2000 Max, the guitarist of our group, and me got married and now we are waiting for a baby.

Degjdiuk Eugeny (DJ): I'm a native Vladivostokian. Before we started going out for long and far-away trios, I considered my city to be the most beautiful city in the world. But when I came to Kamchatka with the band, I really liked Petropavlovsk and Elisovo, may be because I was able to see only these two cities. However in Vladivostok there is something really different from all the other cities. As a child I was brought up in the family of workers in a quite district. I'm an accounter, but I don't really like my profession, I don't know why.
As far as I remember myself, I always wanted to learn how to play keyboard, and I just started, so far I play only black keys, because don't see white ones (it's a joke). I won't talk about my plans for future:I have many desires, but everything is in my Father's hands.

Cor.: What does music mean for you?

Answer: Music is the means for reaching our aim - talking about God to all the people. We really like the music, try to learn and grow, not to stop. Sometimes we lack professionalism, and, good instruments. Moreover, the most important for us is lyrics, and better music is to reach human hearts with words. We try to achieve the highest level, both in music and in our lyrics. But our development has just begun because we just issued our first album .

Cor.: What is your audience?

Answer: We try to use every possibility to tell people about Christ, however we dedicate our music at evangelizing young people; no matter how strange it may seem, even older people like our music. We think, the main thing is to break the stereotype that people have about the Gospel and about Christians, detering the unbelievers. We work with all people who share the same symbol of faith.

Cor.: Where do your concerts take place?

Answer: Anywhere where we are invited by Christian organizations or people. We had our concerts in schools, orphanages, professional schools universities, cafes, cinemas, halls, summer camps and sport camps and sanatoriums, and in specialized schools for young offenders, in prisons. In other words, anywhere where we are needed.

Cor.: What are your plans for future?

Answer: Our plans are very ambitious; we want (and already try) to start the Youth Centre in the city. We'll try to further develop our band, perform new concerts, calling for unbelievers to God. At the mometn, we started working on our second album.

Miracles
The best miracle is the appearing of our band, the first christian band in Vladivostok…

Performers
There wasn't any christian band in this city and in Dalniy Vostok as well. I think there wasn't such a band up to Ural mountains. «Providence» became the first and yet remains the only one…
