Cor.: When and how was the band Man Sound created? V.Ì. Before the Man Sound I worked in Jazz Expromt for 5 years and left that band because I wanted to create a male band. The set of the band was changed several times and for today it’s the following: - Vladimir Mikhnovetsky - the leader, he has graduated from the Kiev institute of Culture. - Òolmachev Ruben - bass, has graduated from the faculty of conductors and choir in Kiev conservatory. He also works in the “Choral cappella of boys and guys "Bell". - Konstantin Pona - tenor, he has graduated from the Kiev conservatory, before working with Man Sound he worked with many other musical bands. - Vladimir Sukhin - tenor, he has graduated from the Institute of Culture, lived in Anadir, was a musical leader of the legendary Chukchee-Eskimo national ensemble "Ergiron". He returned to Kiev before the band was created. - Pavel Ilchuk - baritone, joined Man Sound recently, he came from Tallinn and after the first performance with the band couldn’t leave Kiev. - Volodya Trach - tenor, joined Man Sound recently. He studies at the Institute of Culture. Cor.: Do you have any disagreements in your band? V.Ì. Naturally, there are disagreements, we’re all people. But all of them are brief and they relate only to our job. We find compromises and besides, we appreciate friendship. R.Ò. Life teaches us to appreciate what we have. Cor.: Do you have any idols? V.Ì. There is one band, it’s called "TAKE 6", it’s best in black music and it’s very instructive. By the way while creating Man Sound my direction was Take Six. Cor.: Do you remember your first performance? V.Ì. Yes, The first big performance was on Christmas Eve in Kiev Pioneer Palace. The reaction of the audience was very warm. Cor.: What audience do you prefer to see at your concerts? V.Ì. Any people, irrespective of age and sex. Cor.: Does it mean that your music is for everybody or may be not everyone understands it? V.Ì. We’d like to perform our music more democratically so as different kinds of people could come to our concerts. Cor.: What is your influence on listeners? V.Ì. It’s better to ask listeners about that. We try to give the listeners the feeling of harmony, give them joyful kind emotions. Cor.: Do you have improvisation in your songs? Man Sound: No, we don’t do that. Though we have some improvisations. But we’re not classical jazz band that’s why we have our own attitude to jazz and to lyrics in general. Cor.: How did Christian music appear in your repertoire? Man Sound: We sing songs like "Take 6", they sing Christian music. Cor.: Every member of the "Man Sound" has wonderful voice; any of them can make a good career. Why do they all stay together? Man Sound: I don’t know whether all the members understand it, but I’m sure: everything we do together is much better than the things we could do separately. Cor.: Appearingly you perform on the jazz festivals most of all? Man Sound: Yes we like that kind of activity more than just pop squeezes. Stage "vinegar" - it’s not for us, because there’s a great distance between us and even between any or the best stage singer. It’s impossible to compare the efforts of one singer and the efforts of an ensemble in the process of making a good song. Vocal ensemble is an extremely difficult job. Cor.: Do you agree with the idea that the vocal in our jazz is not primary because all the time our singers just copy the American jazz images? Man Sound: To some extent, yes. Anyway we borrow something from Americans because many things were created before us. We didn’t just started to sing, before we had listened a lot of music, our tastes were formed, and with time we have found our own creative way. Of course, we borrow something from "Take 6" and we try to borrow as much as possible - we’re not ashamed. But we understand that we can’t sing like they do, and we don’t want to. We only want to get what we need. But you don’t cheapen yourself. Yes we know how we sing. Of course anyone can flatter you but if anyone wants to have any progress you have to see your mistakes and estimate your achievements. Cor.: Do you believe in God? Man Sound: Yes. We have much of spiritual music in our repertoire. Cor.: Do you work at night clubs? What concert halls do you like? Man Sound: Sometimes we are invited to come, we agree but only in case if the program was planned properly, when people know why they come to this concert. Our band is not for the entertaining and dancing. We prefer to perform in small chamber halls. Cor.: Do you cooperate with the Ukrainian singers and what are your plans for the future? V.S. Yes, with many of them. For instance, with Ani Lorak, Dima Klimashenko, Taisiya Povaly, Malishev etc. Generally A.Mikhnovetsky like a back-vocal writes music for us. In the future we’re going to perform songs with music accompaniment and to record new clips. Cor.: What deserves to be loved in your opinion? Man Sound: Beauty, harmony, perfection. People deserve to be loved. All the people!
