Cor.: Tell, how did you meet God? K.K: I studied in Kyiv music school of Glier. Soon I got acquainted with a bass guitar player Gennady Vdovenko who invited me to come and play in church. The most interesting thing is that I had to play in church in Tartu, Estonia. It was good that citizens of the USSR didn’t have to get visas for crossing the border of the socialist republics. And having visited St. Petersburg and Tallinn in 1990 I went to Tartu by hitch-hiking. I came on the congregation where Albert Turnpu was preaching (“The Word of Life”). After praising in Estonian I listened to the preaching that was really hot and lasted for one hour. After the sermon I was pushed forward and someone made me repeat the words they were saying. Later I found out that I had said the words of repentance. I was told: “The Kingdom of God – it’s wonderful!” And then they let me go back to Kyiv. And in half a year I went to the bathroom and said: “God, if you exist, show me that”. Wonderfully, but that worked. God needs only a little chink to let the light come into our heart. It seems that He is interested in us more than we are. That might be the result why He had loved us first. Cor.: Had you had a creative work before you repented? K.K.: I had been playing in the group “Republic” before I repented. God dispelled us and send me to study in the Bible school in Tartu in 1995, at that very moment when we began becoming popular. After the festival “Interchance” one of the producers of the beloved by us British group “Kokto Twins” offered us a contract that included 5 concerts in European countries and the record at the studio “Kokto Twins” in London. I wanted to travel across the Europe in summer and to go to Tartu in autumn, but God made His way – the trip of our group was postponed and I had to come to Tartu in September, 1. Now I clearly see that I had no choice – I was hungry for Jesus and together with the drummer Uriy Sapozhinsky we went to the Tartu school. Cor.: Will your third solo album have folk sounding? K.K.: There will be some folk, but still it is a praise album due to the sounding and lyrics. There are a lot of Americanisms, because I have been listening to Americana lately – a mix of alternative and folk. The majority of songs had been written in English at first and only in some years they were translated into Russian. That is why one can hear some non-Russian expression. Cor.: How do you cope with difficulties, does music help you? K.K.: I don’t think that music can help to cope with sin or other difficulties. Closeness with God that comes while worshiping – that’s another question, but it’s not important to be a musician or an artist. Cor.: Why do you perform in this very style? Have you ever had a desire to change it? K.K.: I think that it depends on the upbringing. I’m the result of time during which my heart was forming. However, style changes with the change of taste. Cor.: What groups or musicians have you worked with? Have you learnt anything from them? K.K.: I think that I know the majority of famous Christian performers. Of course it’s not a big privilege and as a result you learn constantly and avidly. Cor.: Do you have any other project except your solo activity? K.K.: I help Gesha Ushivez. I had got acquainted with him before repentance. Soon he composed songs I had always dreamt to compose. Sometimes people stop me at different churches and ask: “Are you Konstya Kosyachkov?” Being happy to be recognized I shake my head. “So it is you who play guitar for Gesha?” Cor.: What do you value in musicians? K.K.: I value kind and open heart. But it were good if there were professionalism. Cor.: What is your attitude toward Christian groups that in some time sing about Christianity and Gospel less straightforward? K.K.: I do not think that songs with bible verses and with Christian themes always testify about the author’s piousness. What is very important is the heart which should go round Him like a satellite. It is very important that the author had a gift from God – a calling that would burn inside him. Verses and themes of songs can be different. Cor.: Are you interested in new tendencies that appear in the music world? K.K.: I’m not very active in following musical tendencies, I’ve stopped watching TV recently (but I don’t think one should do the same). I’m not interested in all that and it’s not useful for my fingers (as for the fingers of the guitarist). Cor.: Where can one buy or listen to your records? K.K.: In Kyiv – in big churches (“The Victory”, “Embassy”) and in shops “Lepta”. In Russia – through the HXT company (www.hxt.ru). You can listen to songs on my site www.masadamusic.com or www.emmanuel.org.ua. Cor.: How do you think, what are the most successful methods of the evangelization nowadays? K.K.: By means of communication. Work is the best place. It would be good for performers to give concerts on discos and play with non-believers. If you are light you should not be afraid, because darkness can’t absorb you. But one shouldn’t do that forcing himself – God opens and closes doors on his own. Cor.: What did you like in the year 2004 and do you expect from the year 2005? K.K.: I liked the orange revolution of course. It was an unexpected gift from God. It’s a pity that its peak was so quick. After November 2004 we became different people. Cor.: What would you wish our listeners and readers? K.K.: Do not rely on people but on God. Be always hungry for God. Be ready for great changes and do not be afraid to do what your heart desires to.
