Corr.: How did you meet God? Lekha Biskwit: All my life I lived with the understanding of the fact that God exists. But I didn’t know how to find Him. I found the church through Sunday school. Andrey Drums: I believed in God like all the Orthodox Christians, but when He touched my heart I get to know Him in a real way. AmericanA: Once I was in a tram. Started to sleep, I was tired so much. I was looking for the coffee in ampulas. I wake up almost near my house, and suddenly I saw that there was some panic in a tram. Passengers were standing shouting in safe belts near the emergency exits. They were almost fighting! I got out of the tram on my station and went home to watch the soup opera «Rabinya Izaura». I remember that I was surprised by that tram that’s why I looked back very often while walking. To make a long story short I came home and my friends asked me: «Where did you put 2,5 kg of heroin?», and I with an embarrassing smile, was pulling the corner of my shirt, was flashing from force of habit. And I decided to go to God by my own decision and not to be forced to do that. Corr.: What is the name of your band and why is it called such a way? Answer: We were looking through many names, we even had made a competition. All of them fell through. We wanted to find a good name for the band and we wanted to have a name with the meaning. As people say: «The way you name the band the way it’s going to be». And on one of the grey days the friend of our family was sitting at shop window and was holding one piece of metal in his hands said: “StEpleR” (it was the thing in his hands), raising his finger upright. It was witnessed by the bass-guitarist and sent to the authorities. And after that we have found the meaning for all of that: StEpleR means that we join people with God, our ministry is the ministry of reconciliation. Corr.: Please, describe your creative way before the repentance. Answer: There wasn’t any. AmericanA: The only thing that pushed me to the musical career was balalaika and accordion that were given to me in my childhood. I didn’t want to learn how to play them. In general nothing foretold about such events. The beginning of the creative way starts from repentance, God taught us such a way. Lesha: When I was 5, my parents took me to the circus, and I saw a clown playing the guitar, and it seemed to me that it was so easy to play the guitar, I thought I just had to touch the strings. I persuaded my parents to buy a guitar for me, I gathered all the people around me and started to play … My first concert lasted for 5 seconds. Andrey: I played the guitar all the time, and when I went to England to study, and I dreamed to study there how to play the bass guitar, I even took my handbook with me. But I couldn’t resist the temptation to learn how to play the drums. So I’m still playing drums. Corr.: What style of songs do you perform? Why did you choose such a style? Answer: They say we are very much alike Blink-182. At the beginning we couldn’t find our own style. And then we were invited to Lutsk – to entertain the audience. Some rappers performed together with us – the band «Street prophets», they called us punks, and this name stuck to us. In general punk-rock – is cool music, joyful. Moreover, this style is going through his second birth here. Growing generation likes it. We have a chance to come to the commercial level. Corr.: Did you want to change your style? Answer: We don’t want to follow one style. We have many other songs. Corr.: How do you write your songs? Answer: Generally, at night in the kitchen. Of course, a song happens to be created at one time rarely. Usually tunes come to my mind, then I repeat it day by day, and after that I find words. Corr.: What do you sing about? Answer: There are some songs on the topics from Bible but with modern interpretation, there are songs on social topics. Generally, in every song we speak about God. Corr.: What does music mean for you? Answer: What can I say?… I’d like to devote an essential part of my life to music. Music is a wonderful instrument, one can melt the hardest hearts with music. We can tell people about God, we can give hope to the worst pessimists. Corr.: What audience do you sing for? Answer: We don’t thing about people, our music is against stereotypes, against the way people think. After Soviet Union people live in a black-and-white world like tired sheep. We want to make the world around us brighter, better, kinder. Once a punk on our concert told us that: “…Your music is ki-i-i-ind….”. Corr.: Tell me please more about yourself. Lesha Biskwit: I like playing guitars for hours. My fan lives at my house, it’s my mum. She likes all the music I play till 9:00 p.m. I travel around the country with pleasure: I go the mountains, to the seaside (the best place to relax is Yalta). I like adventures. AmericanA: Except music I admire EXTREME activities: skating, snowboarding, sky-diving, adventures and everything that makes you happy and gives adrenalin to your blood. I like walking along the center of Kiev in the evening, I like going to club parties. Andrey Drums: I like reading books. I like spending my time with my family. I love my wife very much (she’ s Lesha’s sister) and I love my daughter Anita. We have a great number of friends: with different tastes, speaking different languages, multicolored, with different ways of thinking. Generally we make friends with anybody, call us, visit us, fly to us, crawl to us – we’ll be glad to see all of you. Our å-mail: StEpleR@torba.com Corr.: What is your attitude to modern music? What are its minuses and pluses? Answer: Well, we generally relate to it. We’re the band. If to be serious show business is on the high level now, but not in our country. It’s a minus. But it will be some day – and it’s a plus. Today there is music for different tastes. It’s bad that there is only bad music on TV, music performed by people who have neither voice nor talents. And there are a lot of good respect worthy projects but they remain in the shadow!!! We need more Christian producers!!! Corr.: What music do you hear? Answer: Punk, SKA, Hard-core, Rap-core, Reggae, Pop-cy, alternative music, classical music and many other things. To make a long story short – we listen to different styles. We don’t want to be snobs. The main thing is that music has to be cool and texts have to be nice. Corr.: Where can one buy your recordings and where can one listen to them? Answer: Soon the collection “Pro-Rock” will be issued. And there is one our MP3 song in this collection on the web site. You’d better come to our concerts; you’ll enjoy the time there. Write to E-mails – we’ll tell the time of the concerts. Corr.: What are your plans for the future? Answer: We plan to earn much money, to drive in limousines, to eat only in expensive restaurants, to play on ÌTV: much fame, reporters everywhere, houses and apartments in all the European capitals, ocean yachts (3 yachts per one person). Then we plan to be shooted in several Hollywood blockbusters - Oscars, bonuses, fees… Then we’ll open the boutique, and we’ll make P. Diddy bankrupt. And then, when our star time is over, when we waste all the money, we’ll go by bus again, we’ll eat at home and play our favorite music. We’ll start with a cool site with cool photos of the band members, and may be, we’ll make a cool video clip, and at the end of the site we’ll write a great number of bank accounts for money to be sent. Then we will be looking for men and women who can give money for good things without regrets and will make evangelizations all over Ukraine or even in other countries. To put it shortly, God’s willing. Corr.: How do you overcome difficulties and does music help you in this? Can you give an example? Answer: We don’t fight with them – they’re our friends, difficulties don’t allow us to relax and make us move to the objective. And there was one case: Once we bought smoked bacon, some butter and mustard. We came home, sliced bacon, put butter on it, smeared it over with mustard, salted and peppered it and threw it away in order not to torture organism with fat and spicy things. It’s not about music but it’s just from my memories. Corr.: What are the most successful ways of evangelization? Answer: Mostly people are afraid of staying alone and throw-out. Personal meeting was and remains the most effective method. Even if evangelizations and other activities were global people who didn’t find friends earlier or later left disenchanted. MC pastor is a good example. Many modern young people find out about God from him because he primarily becomes their friend. And there are many such people, a few of them are known. Corr.: If you could change the world what would you primarily change? Answer: It’s impossible to answer right away, we never thought about that. Corr.: What would you wish for our readers and listeners? Answer: Hey, guys and girls, be yourselves, don’t go telling yourself lies. It’s so disgusting to see hypocrisy. And be friends with God, and fulfill you crazy ideas only with Him.
