Jonsong is the music of Jonathan K.Klemme. I'm a songwriter and musician, over the years involved in many projects, Jonsong is definitely the most personal of them. Born 1965. At the age of 13 playing in a rock band. With 16 years foundation of the first own group. In concerts frequent use of art and light design. With 18 years new musical fields discovered: Music from the Renaissance period up to J.S.Bach. During the 'Zivildienst' at the age of 21 a new discovery: The old organ in the church of the old people's home in the town of Würzburg became my favorite instrument. Afterwards hitchhiking across Europe. For one year place of abode in Algeciras (Andalucia - Spane), there first contact with modern praise and worship music. At the age of 24 back to Germany. Musician in an evangelical church in Stuttgart. First recordings and steps into the songwriter field with my JONSONG projects. Release of several CD's. 1991 move to Salzbergen, northern Germany. Until 2001 so called 'Worshipleader' in a church in Rheine - more new songs and hard work to improve musical skills. Recently discovery of a new terrain: Instrumental music and CCM. Since 2002 release of some of my music through MP3 on the internet. Matching with many things I was going through in the last years, St. John of the cross (died 1591), apart from some other so called catholic mystics, became my personal 'patron' on the journey towards these songs. He wrote 'the dark night of the soul' and the 'spiritual canticle'; poetry, wich he interpretes with his own words. Basically it's a love story... about the crazy things God does to bring us back to his heart. It's also about the purification which takes place in order to advance on the path towards a loving relationship with the creator of souls. It's not that I am trying to elevate myself to a super-spiritual stage, and call myself a disciple of some great mystic; the thing at hand for me was to find sound answers to all the ups and downs, the questions, obstacles and quests as a follower of Christ. You may call it the way towards heaven, the union with God, or simply the attempt to live up to; or experience at least some of the things the Bible talks about. Embeded in a society who increasingly locks itself up from the fact of the incarnation of the son of God; faced with all sorts of inward problems; and confused by the various options and believes, I found myself in many funny situations: Years ago for example, I was fully engaged in a strong charismatic church, which was a form of addictive subcultural life for me. We knew exactly right from wrong, a 'spiritual' answer for every arising question was easily found, black and white quite fast distinguished. Yet with the years I faced more and more the fact that 'reality' is not the same thing as a certain type of 'apostolic' creed or self-protection system. By profession I am a kind of geriatric nurse. Since 10 years I work mainly at night in an old people's home. I saw many people slowly pass away, terrible suffering under physical and mental sickness. Many times I was confronted with the question of eternity or the meaning of life on the whole. Death lost its threat... and I became more aware of the importance of quality and substance; in other words: not to be so easily deceived by outward appearence and temporal success or failure. Attracted by its depth, diversity and yet unity, me and our whole family became members of the catholic church in 2001. I found a vast richness of spritual treasures, collected over the ages. Yet it also became clear to me, that simply relying on a noble tradition without cultivating personal prayerlife, can't be the best solution. Also the temptation of not making a difference increased; the call to repentance became fainter sometimes... in other words: How can one be a radical follower of Christ without falling into religious extremity? Is there a way to have an 'edge' and being 'crisp', and still be a man of generous tolerance? Contemplating the current state, with all experiences in mind, I found some convincing truths for myself, which of course must always be assumed as 'working titles' on a journey towards a place not fully known in this present life: 1 - Light is better seen in darkness, not broad daylight. Especially if the light is tender, gentle and somehow fragile. It's not fragile because it has no strenght in itself, rather our receptive organs for it are sick, not trained, or focused on the wrong things. 2 - The mission of God, coming to this earth in the form of a little baby born in the stable was to WARM COLD HEARTS ( The incarnation ) , to light up the fire of love towards God by removing obstacles ( The cross ) and overcoming the enmity of death ( The resurrection ). The CD 'Spark of hope' is all about receiving the broadcast of God a little bit better and clearer...
