Corr.: Please tell us a few words about the group as a whole. Answer: As a group, we don't have a long history. Within this short period of time, we participated in evangelization campaigns, performed at a youth festival organized by the Pentecostals from Odessa region in June, 1999, participated in the All-Ukrainian Pentecostal Youth Meeting in July, 1999 in the town of Shepetovka. There we met many other young Christians from Ukraine and Russia. We thank God for this opportunity and for the fact that he makes us closer to each other, in spite of the distance between us. We greet all those we know and we don't know yet. Corr.: What does the name of your group mean? Answer: In Aramaic, "avva" means "father" or even "daddy." This is how children address their loving father. Corr.: Please tell us how you became a believer. Sergey Tsibulsky: Let me tell you how I came to a meeting of believers for the first time. My grandmother was a Christian. My sister started going to the church with her, so one day my sister invited me to join her and we started attending the church together. At services, I specially liked singing. When I was 11 or 12, we took our mother to the church. She repented and took water baptism. Before I really understood that the Lord was calling me to fellowship with him, I have been attending the church for about a year and a half. I repented on the 7th of October, 1993. When I turned 17, I took water baptism and promised to serve the Lord. Corr.: And how did you make a decision to perform music for God? Sergey Tsibulsky: After I repented, my friend and I started to learn playing guitar and singing. We liked praise Jesus very much. We organized "God's Gift," a children's group. I don't know if people liked our singing, but we tried hard and did it with open hearts for God's name and glory. In several years I met Vitaly. We are members of the same church, once we tried singing together and it turned out well. We started singing with the church worship team. Later we met Christian musicians from the town of Tiraspol. Sometimes we worked together, and one day we met Oleg Khomchenkov. Later our group "AVVA" was born. Vitaly Zinkovich: I started playing music as a 13-years-old school boy. There as a band in our school, and our teacher taught us to play and sing. I liked it very much. After the school I entered the Illyichevsk Sailors' College, but I have not graduated from it and moved to Tiraspol where entered a college training builders and decorators. In 1994, my mother and I started attending believers' meetings. My musical studies helped me to glorify the Lord and praise his holy name in the church worship team. I became a member of the church and took water baptism. In the church I met Sergey Tsibulsky, and along with the church youth we began to prepare various music and drama programs. At that time I started writing songs which glorified God the Creator who gave me lfe and forgave my sins. The Lord is abundantly blessing me in my ministry. Corr.: How are your new songs being born? Vitaly Zinkovich: God merely blesses me with new songs. Usually I write at nights, when there is silence around. I pray and the Lord gives me lyrics and music. Most of my songs are lyric and tuneful. When a sufficient amount of them was born, I decided to gather them in an album which was named "The Pain of the Roads of Judea." Corr.: What would you like to tell your audience by means of music? Answer: We perform original songs and songs of other Christian performers who tell the world about Jesus Christ and his suffering and about the fact that life without God brings only problems - fear, uncertainty, alcoholism, drugs, and death. Our songs tell that there is a way out, there is a living Gospel (Good News), there is the redeeming death of Jesus Christ who can change the situation, no matter how hard and hopeless it is. We testify for it with our lives. Corr.: Could you tell us about yourselves and your plans for the future? Oleg Khomchenkov: I was born on the 30th of May, 1970, in the town of Tiraspol where I live now. I have a higher education, am married and have two children. My wife's name is Marina, she is a school teacher. Sergey Tsibulsky: I was born on the 31st of July,1979, in the town of Tiraspol; now I am 20. I live in the village of Pervomaisk which is a suburb of Tiraspol. I have graduated from high school and from book-keepers' courses. I am not married and live with my mother. I try not to build plans for the future because I trust the Lord and entrust them to him! Vitaly Zinkovich: I was born in 1975, in the republic of Belorussia. Now I live in Moldova, in Pervomaisk. I am not married and live with my mother, younger sister, and brother. My friends Oleg, Sergey and I sure want to grow as a group, to record new albums, and, most importantly, to work on God's field and carry the Gospel to people!
