Corr.: How and when did you make a decision to write and perform Christian music? V.Sh.: It happened when I was in prison and served my second sentence for theft and drugs. In prison, I first heard about the Gospel which has completely changed all of my thougthts and all of my life. Corr.: How do you write your songs? V.Sh.: All of my songs (there are about 20 of them) were written in prison. I don't write when I am at liberty, I just did not try it. Corr.: What does music mean to you? V.Sh.: Music for me is a state of spirit. Before I received Christ, music for me was a state of soul, but now it is a state of spirit. I believe that music is a spiritual sphere which will never be explored by man before he takes part in God's Kingdom (1 Cor. 13:11). Corr.: What people do you write your songs for? V.Sh.: First of all my songs are aimed at those who have no hope. I try to bring them hope and show them that they are not alone with their problems. Corr.: Where do you give your concerts? V.Sh.: I perform in churches and in prisons where I try to bring God's Word. Corr.: Could you tell us about yourself? V.Sh.: Recently the Lord called me to preach his Word which is very important to those who don't know Jesus yet as well as for me. I believe that God called me to preach his Word -- otherwise how would I receive him? (John 6:65). I also believe that God keeps acting in my life. He leads me to his Eternal Kingdom (John 6:39). I think that the most important thing in my ministry is to keep believing in the real God because there are about 20 different confessions working in Ukrainian churches, including Buddhists, Jews, Krishnaits, and Moslems. All of them are saying that they preach the only true God. But this is just impossible, some of them are lying. That is why I try not to judge anybody. Here is what God has put into my heart: Faith is a miracle, Church is a miracle, and God is a miracle. But God reveals this miracle to everyone who he wants to open it to. He reveals this miracle to all who want to follow Christ. This miracle is in God's covenant with man, in God's New Testament in which God reveals man his love and man having received God follows him and lives in him. Man becomes man in Jesus Christ our Lord. And we have to bring this good news of salvation the way it is given us in the New Testament to all ends of the world, including prisons.
